To qualify for a full-privilege Class 1,2,3 or 4 (commercial) driver's licence, you must pass a pre-trip inspection test and a road test, as well as a medical exam.
The pre-trip inspection test and road test are often simply referred to as "the road test."
Unless you're taking a pre-trip inspection test only, both tests are taken on the same day.
The pre-trip inspection lets you demonstrate that you know how, when and why you should do a pre-trip inspection.
If you are applying for a Class 1,2,3 or 4 unrestricted commercial licence, you must also complete and submit a written trip-inspection report.
If you fail the pre-trip inspection test, you may retake it without having to retake the road test. (You will need to pay the test fee again.)
