Class 7 (Novice) road test
Ready to take the next step in getting your licence? Passing your novice (Class 7N) road test will take you out of the learner's stage of graduated licensing.
When can you take your test?
You'll be able to take your novice (Class 7N) road test after you've had your learner's (Class 7L) licence for at least 12 months.
What you'll be tested on
An ICBC driver examiner will test you on your ability to perform various driving manoeuvres in a safe, smooth and controlled manner.
Your examiner will look for:
- How well you perform your key driving skills.
- Your See-Think-Do skills. See-Think-Do is a driving strategy to help you scan for hazards, decide on safest solution and perform manoeuvres safely.
- Your ablity to perceive and spot hazards.

What to bring
When you come for your test, bring
- a safe vehicle
- required ID
- payment for the road test fee ($35) and a Class 7 novice photo driver's licence ($75), and
- valid insurance and registration documents.

After you pass
After passing your road test, you qualify for a Class 7N driver's licence and enter the novice (N) stage of graduated licensing.
If you don't pass, you may take the test again after 14 days for another $35 fee. Review your test results, study your driving guides, practice and try again when you feel ready.
