Knowledge test (passenger vehicles)

Before you can get your learner's licence, you have to take a knowledge test.

The knowledge test is based on the safe-driving guide, Learn to drive smart. There are 50 multiple-choice questions on the test. To pass, you need to correctly answer at least 40.

What to bring

When you come in for your test, you must bring:

• your required ID  
• $15 for the test fee (must be paid each time the test is taken), and
• $10 for your Class 7 photo learner’s licence.

If you're under 19

Your parent or a legal guardian also need to come in to the licensing office to sign your licence application.

Ready for your test?

Great! Just go to a driver licensing office at least one hour before closing time.

You don't need an appointment first, unless you're taking the test at:

To book a test appointment at these locations, please contact the driver licensing office directly.

After you pass

After meeting all application requirements, you'll get a Class 7 learner’s and enter the learner (L) stage of graduated licensing.
